Rakhine based journalists issue statement on imprisonment of EMG's reporter

Rakhine-based journalists have released a statement about the imprisonment of EMG's reporter on Thursday.

In the statement, the imprisonment on EMG's reporter Ma Khine by Loikaw Township court can make to damage the dignity of judicial pillar in addition to suppress the right of media freedom and free to reporting.

While the government is giving a promise to implement a democracy reform plan, it is concluded that the imprisonment on a reporter is against the democratic values. The people are depended upon the media on democracy reform and the imprisonment is being viewed as a lack of respect on the fourth pillar.

"The judgement is intended to oppress all journalists in Myanmar. We can't accept the decision. We asked for the release," Bagyi Kyaw, a reporter from The Mirror, a government-run daily newspaper said.

The journalists also urged the government to reconsider the prison sentence.

The Rakhine based journalists strongly opposed the imprisonment on the reporter that it seemed like oppressing and bullying all journalists and asked the government to release the sentenced reporter as soon as possible,  the statement said.

"The decision needs to review because it is unfair judgement for the journalists while they have been given media rights. The government needs to be carefully in that kind of case. Actually the journalists from Rakhine state are facing difficulties to take reporting. I want to ask the government not to oppress the media rights," Kyaw Sein Than, reporter of Street View journal said.
