Myanmar singers visit shelter kids

SHARING JOY: Ah Moon and Kimi of Me N Ma Girls spend time with the children of Ti-Ratana Welfare Society

KUALA LUMPUR: TWO members of the  Myanmar pop band Me N Ma Girls, paid a surprise visit to the   Ti-Ratana Welfare Society recently.

Ah Moon and Kimi spent about an hour at the welfare home. They sang, spoke and read books to the children.

"It was a meaningful trip for us. We are happy that our visit, even though it was just for a while, brought joy to the children.

"Despite their misfortune, they gave us the brightest smiles. We hope we will be able to visit them again in the near future," said Ah Moon.

"Besides volunteering and helping the needy back in our native Myanmar, we believe that we must also do the same in neighbouring countries.

"Everyone should come together as one and help these children. It is always better to give than to receive. There is more joy in giving and it is nice to see the happiness it brings with it," she added.

Ti-Ratana founder and adviser Venerable Datuk K. Sri Dhammaratana Nayaka Maha Thero said he was touched by the visit.

"Despite ethnic and religious differences, the girls quickly developed a bond with the children.

"Charity, kindness and compassion should be shown throughout the year. I hope more corporate organisations, families and individuals will come forward to help those in need," he said.

Ti-Ratana is a community centre created for the betterment of children, young people and senior citizens, regardless of race or creed.

Me N Ma Girls, set up in 2010, is Myanmar's first all-girl group.

The other members are Htike Htike and Cha Cha. The group is working with Power Music Inc, an American record label, and has just released its first song titled Girl Strong.
