Young graduates and jobless youth are facing challenges to apply for jobs at new communication companies who are beginning to operate in Myanmar.
"When I saw the job advertisement for Nokia Siemens, what we can apply for is only a reception post. We need the skills although job opportunities are plenty. It is good that we can work that kind of job here while we have to go to abroad for them in the past," said Thiha, a web developer.
More companies are advertising job vacancies but many people cannot apply because they lack the skill levels required by the companies. Some students wonder if they will ever get a job when they graduate because people who already have jobs are applying for the new posts.
"They give the best job opportunities for the engineers. But fresh graduates like us can face challenges. We heard that the communication companies went to universities to offer jobs but work part time while attending university. It's the people who have jobs already who are applying for jobs at Telenor and Ooredoo," said Ei Ei, a graduate engineer.
