SOMETIMES beautiful things happen by accident.

Nambour doctor Yinn Aung recently won the 2013 Reader's Digest Unseen Asia Photography award with a picture she took completely by chance.

Dr Aung, (pictured right), was awarded for her snap of cattle being herded in her native Myanmar, more commonly known as Burma.

She took the shot while holidaying in Bagan, in the country's central region, late last year and was waiting for sunset when the opportunity presented itself.

"We were just up there waiting and waiting and the herd just came past and I captured that moment," Dr Aung said.

"I wasn't trying, I didn't have a tripod or any other equipment. It was just a snapshot.

"But the lighting was really nice at that time of day and I was fortunate enough to get a good shot."

Dr Aung took the photo at the Pya Thet Gyi pagoda, a spot popular with amateur photographers and famous for its stunning sunsets, using a Canon 600D DSLR.

She won the award under her nom de plume Shwe Yinn.

Dr Aung came to Australia after finishing her studies in Myanmar in 2004.

A keen amateur photographer and tennis player, she came to work for Nambour General Hospital through a Queensland Health recruitment campaign.

"The Coast offers me a beautiful atmosphere, lovely beaches, hinterland villages and the wonderful landscape of mountain ranges," Dr Aung said.

"And yes, the people are warm and friendly. I simply love it."
