A host nation has been sought to transfer some of the foreigners detained in Sri Lanka, the Immigration and Emigration department said.
The department said that 96 Myanmar nationals will likely be sent to a host country with the assistance of the UNHCR. The Myanmar nationals have refused to return to their own country over various concerns.
The Immigration and Emigration department said that a group of foreigners from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia, who have been detained in Sri Lanka mostly for violating their visa regulations, do not have the support of their embassies to be sent back.
