Inmates from riot-hit Kawthaung Prison transferred to Myeik, Dawei and Yangon

Kawthaung Ninth Mile Prison yesterday transferred an estimated 185 inmates to other prisons in the country, including at least two in southern Myanmar and another in Yangon, according to Eleven Media reporter Ye Myint Win.

In the latest development since the fatal September 14 riot, the prisoner transfer began with the first delivery of inmates to Taw Win Jetty in Kawthaung at 3 pm yesterday. The prisoners were loaded onto a ship conveyed by crane from a 10-wheeled car, the report said.
Although the exact number of prisoners and which prisons they were transferred to are not exactly known, the plan was to send the inmates to prisons in Myeik, Dawei and Yangon, the report said.
On seeing the prisoners being conveyed by crane onto the ship, family members were overcome by emotion. Eleven Media made enquiries about the transfer to relevant officials, but received no response.
There were said to be 50 inmates carried by the first ten-wheeler that arrived at Taw Win Jetty. The second bus also carried 50 prisoners. The exact number of prisoners carried in the third bus was unknown, but earlier reports said that the plan was to transfer 185 prisoners.
