JICA PLEDGES OVER 6 MILLION USD FOR BORDER DEVELOPMENT

Japanese International Cooperation Agency has pledged USD 6.41 million
for development of isolated corners of Myanmar, according to the
official media.

The Japanese government aids agency signed Record of Discussions with
the Ministry of Border Affairs on development of Myanmar's border
areas.

JICA will cooperate with the ministry in encouraging substitution of
crops in the former poppy farms and other development efforts.

The project will cover Kyaukme, Muse and Laukkai areas in Shan State
in eastern Myanmar and will last till 2018.

Myanmar border affairs minister Lt-Gen Thet Naing Win briefed on
efforts of the ministry to profit the people residing in remote areas.

JICA Myanmar Office's senior representative Akihito Sanjo elaborated
on the project at the ceremony before signing the Record of
Discussions with the ministry.
