Thai, Myanmar press forge closer ties

The Thai Journalists Association (TJA) and the Myanmar Journalists Association (MJA) on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding on a media exchange programme, the first of its kind between the two countries.

The MoU was signed by TJA president Pradit Ruangdit and the head of a Myanmar media delegation from the MJA, Aung Hla Tun, who is visiting Thailand with five MJA committees.

Mr Pradit said the MoU and the visit by the Myanmar journalists were considered a historic moment for the media associations.

Under the MoU, the two agreed to closely work together to help promote media relations. They agreed to foster a better understanding of social, economic, political and cultural matters in their countries. The media associations also agreed to carry out a media exchange programme every year.

Aung Hla Tun said he and his Myanmar delegates were delighted with TJA's moves to foster closer ties.
