Thailand Protests after Burmese Fire on Thai Fishing Boat

Print This Post

The Royal Thai Navy issued a protest after Burmese soldiers allegedly opened fire on a Thai fishing boat that sailed into an overlapping border area on Saturday, reports The Bangkok Post. The incident, which saw the Thai vessel's crew of 14 jump into the sea after they came under fire, occurred near southern Thailand's Ranong Province, located near Kawthaung in Burma's Tenasserim Division. It also comes amid warming ties between the two countries. Last week, the commander in chief of Burma's armed forces, Snr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing, traveled to Thailand to meet with Prime Minister and Defense Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Thai military top brass.
