Committee to organize alms offering ceremony to the entire monks in Shan State town Thipaw in commemoration of 110th anniversary Pagoda Festival of Thipaw's landmark historic Maha Myat Muni Buddha Image met September 14, according to official media.
The pagoda was built by Thipaw Emirate Saw Kyar Khaing and Royal Family 121 years ago and is a replica of Mandalay Maha Myat Muni Buddha Image, government newspaper Myanma Alinn said.
The meeting focused on organizing the event on grand scale.
Townselders U Aung Khin and U Khin Maung Win made recommendations.
Alms were offered to 1617 monks and novices and the fund of more than K 80 million was established in the previous year, according to the report.
The committee has planned to offer alms to 1597 monks and novices from 60 monasteries in the township in traditional styles.
Alms and other offertories are donated to the monks and novices through lots in a traditional seasonal occasion called "sar-ye-tan-mae-pwe", literally donation by lots festival.
