Belarus, Myanmar to cooperate in healthcare

MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Myanmar have signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation in healthcare, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.

The document was signed during the visit of Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valentin Rybakov to Myanmar on 31 October -1 November. The first session of Belarus-Myanmar joint committee on trade and economic cooperation was held in the city of Naypyidaw on 1 November. The session was chaired by Valentin Rybakov and Deputy Minister of National Planning and Economic Development of Myanmar Khin San Yee.

The participants of the session reviewed the progress in fulfilling the agreement reached during the official visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich to Myanmar in December 2011, outlined cooperation prospects and held presentations of the Belarusian Potash Company and Minsk Automobile Plant.

The memorandum of understanding and cooperation between the healthcare ministries of Belarus and Myanmar was signed during the session of the committee.

Ministerial consultations were held the same day. The consultations were co-chaired by Valentin Rybakov and Deputy Foreign Minister of Myanmar Thant Kyaw. The parties communicated views on the topical issues of Belarus-Myanmar cooperation. The participants of the session deemed it necessary to keep exchanging visits at various levels, expanding the legal and treaty basis and taking measures to intensify the bilateral trade.

An agreement was reached on Belarus-Myanmar collaboration within the framework of international organizations, including the United Nations.

During the visit to Myanmar, Valentin Rybakov met with Minister of National Planning and Economic Development Kan Zaw. The parties shared information about the social and economic development of Belarus and Myanmar. The Myanmar minister said he was satisfied with the visit of the Belarusian delegation and the first session of Belarus-Myanmar joint committee on trade and economic cooperation.
