Ethnic armed groups in Myanmar on Saturday signed a nine-point framework agreement at the end of a four-day Ethnic Armed Groups Conference in the border town of Laiza, northernmost Kachin state, to reach nationwide cease-fire with the government, sources said.
The nine-point draft framework agreement mainly called for holding political dialogue with the government within a few months.
It also includes acceptable political roadmaps to both sides, promising to hold political dialogue and trust building.
The framework plan will be presented to government's central peace making group on Monday in Myitgyina, the capital of Kachin state.
The Laiza peace conference of leaders of ethnic armed groups, which began on Wednesday, mainly discussed nationwide ceasefire, political dialogue and establishment of federal union system.
The conference was organized by the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and 17 other armed groups including United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC), Kayin National Union (KNU), Restoration Council of the Shan State Army (RCSS), Democratic Kayin Buddhist Army (DKBA) and New Mon State Party (NMSP) participated.
Despite being invited, the United Wa State Army (US) and National Democratic Alliance Army, Eastern Shan State (NDAA-ESS) were absent from the conference.
In his monthly radio speech to the nation on Friday, Myanmar President U Thein Sein expressed convince that the Laiza peace conference will pave way for the successful inauguration of political dialogue process between the government and the armed groups.
Thein Sein, in his Wednesday's message to the conference, also hoped that the resolutions adopted and agreements produced out of the conference could help with signing nationwide ceasefire accords with the government and setting framework for political dialogue to build lasting peace in the country.
