Myanmar government has guaranteed foreign telecom firms which emerged
successful bidders in Myanmar's telecom tender to grant licenses in
later December, according to a report by the Voice weekly.
Ross Cormack, CEO of Ooredoo, said they were promised to be granted
the licenses by this year's end.
He expressed his hope for granting licenses on schedule.
He said he was encouraged by the telecom law approved the parliament
of Myanmar recently.
Despite the promise to grant licenses once the law is enacted, the
Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has yet to award
licenses to the successful bidders.
Norway's Telenor and Qatar's Ooredoo won the licenses out of 11
bidders in the hotly contested auction.
