Tourists flocking into the hot balloon festival in Taunggyi will no
more be charged entry fees starting this year, according to a local
government official.
Shan State planning and finance minister Thein Maung said the entry
fee to the yearly festival will no more be collected.
The festival yearly attracts both local and foreign visitors to the
city and a major tourist attraction of the region.
"We collected (entry fee) last year still. We will no more collect
this year," Thein Maung said, in quote by the Voice.
The last year's entry fee for a foreigner is USD 5, causing
disruptions among tourists and travel agencies.
Organizers of the iconic festival also said the gambling activities in
the festival would not be allowed in this year.
The Taunggyi Tazaungdai hot balloon festival is scheduled to be held
on November 10-18.
