Yangon City Development Committee, the municipal body of the
commercial city of Myanmar, has selected two companies out of 11
bidding firms for production of thermal energy in the city, according
to the Voice report.
The scavenging energy will be produced from dumping grounds in the
city tackling with limited supply of electricity, according to head of
YCDC environmental conservation and sanitation department Than Lwin
Oo.
Korea-based Chasson International and a joint venture between
Korean-based Hyundai Rotem Co Ltd and local firm Zeya Associates Co
Ltd have emerged successful bidders of the auction.
Chasson International will generate gas and electricity from dumping
ground in Hlinethaya Township while the Hyundai-Zeya will establish
the incinerator at the dumping ground in Dagon Myothit Township to
generate electricity.
Yangon—and the whole Myanmar—is tackling with deficiency of
electricity, causing a wave of protests during the last year.
