Host Myanmar has gathered seven medals (six golds and one silver) to lead the medal tally of the Southeast Asian Games on Saturday when three sports - Chinlone, waterpolo and wushu - were on stage.

Myanmar Wushu athletes collected two golds and a silver in the Taolu event while the Myanmar Chinlone teams (men and women) added two to their initial two goals.

Thailand is the second on the table with two golds, a silver and a bronze, and Vietnam is the third with a medal in each color.

Saturday evening saw the much-awaited football matches kick off in Yangon.

Thailand beat East Timor 3-1 and host Myanmar had a good start with a 3-0 win to Cambodia.

The next day will bring basketball and boxing to the stage in Nay Pyi Taw, the capital of the country.
