The Ministry of Transport will implement the Transport Master Plan drafted with the support of Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2014, according to Modern News Journal.

"The drafting of the Master Plan will be completed by year's end and will be implemented as from 2014," deputy transport minister Zin Yaw told the paper.

"We are developing the Transport Master Plan to upgrade transport works," the deputy minister said.

The transport master plan will cover port development plan and airport development plan as they are instrumental in development of a nation, says the report.

"We would get the best possible solution if we could coordinate the Transport Master Plan of the entire nation and the Yangon Region Master Plan," said the deputy transport minister.

The ministry will rally participation of the central government agencies, the local governments in finalizing the master plan.

Yangon International Airport and ports near Yangon are major gateways to Myanmar.
