Best Western has become the first major US-based hotel chain to open a property in Myanmar.
The company has now officially launched the 189-room Best Western Green Hill Hotel in Yangon, following a management agreement initially signed last summer.
Glenn de Souza, Best Western's vice president of international operations for Asia Middle East, said he was "absolutely delighted" to launch the landmark hotel.
"Once again Best Western International is blazing a trail in the global hospitality industry. Our arrival in Myanmar makes Best Western the first US-based hotel company to establish a presence in this exciting country, since it opened up to international investment. This is a great source of pride for our historic company," de Souza said.
"With the incredible growth and development currently being seen in Myanmar, and incredibly bright forecasts for the future, I am extremely confident that Best Western Green Hill Hotel will be a huge success. Best Western International sees huge potential in Myanmar, and we intended to be here for the long-term, helping to grow the country's tourism industry," he added.
Located in the centre of Yangon, with views of the Shwedagon Pagoda, Best Western Green Hill Hotel offers a range of facilities for international travellers, including free in-room Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, plus a restaurant and three meeting rooms offering more than 200m² of function space.
Best Western also has plans to expand its portfolio in Myanmar, with a new upscale Best Western Premier hotel expected to launch in the country's capital, Naypyidaw, later this year.
Other Western hotel chains with firm plans to open in Myanmar include Accor, which has plans for six hotels in the country, and Hilton, which is expected to launch a 300-room property in Yangon in 2014.
