NLD's spokesperson clarifies Suu Kyi's stance toward suspended Myitsone project

In response to the news about NLD and its leader's indecisiveness over Myanmar's Myitsone Project expressed in The Daily Eleven, Win Myint, the spokesperson of NLD's chairperson Aung San Suu Kyi, clarified the attitude of Suu Kyi towards the project.

The move came from the spokesperson who wanted to clarify Suu Kyi's comment about the project expressed on the NLD Facebook page of News Information on January 3.

The headline of "NLD and its chairperson indecisive over whether or not Myitsone project would continue" was described in bold words on the cover of The Daily Eleven issued on January 3. This expression is one-sided accusation.

This project was agreed by the previous military regime. It was not known what facts were involved in the contract. What points were agreed? Details about the project are not known. In this state, it is not easy for a person of her word to decisively talk about  the project without her knowledge.

Suu Kyi earlier said that she needed to look at the Myitsone dam's contract and what facts would be involved there. She thought the government should inform the public. The burden of theses pledges would be on the shoulders of the country and the people. That was why she had not made comments without knowing all the detailed facts of the contract. As she is a democracy leader and public leader, she told about the project solemnly according to the saying of "Say only seldom, but keep the words what you have said.

The contract must be studied. The project must be reviewed. There must be negotiation. There must be transparency for the people. The national concern and international mineral resources must be focussed. A solution to relieve the worries of all those wanting to defend Ayeyawady River has to be jointly sought. Therefore, the attitude of the NLD's leader is decisive. There can't be no answer better than this. No other words are more accurate than these.

The 2015 elections have not yet come. The NLD is now a government. The chairperson told about the project to the time and circumstance of a situation. The specially noticeable point is as if a Myanmar proverb "Before the battle begins the arrows run out".

The President sent a message to the Parliament on September 31, 2011, saying that Myitsone dam project would be suspended during his presidential tenure. In this state, so many questions can be raised about that. Should a responsible person from the previous government take responsibility for that? Should the current government hand over responsibility to the next government without taking the responsibility? Does the government pretend to the Section 445 of the Constitution saying that undertakings, duties and privileges of SLORC and SPDC must continue taking responsibility?

Should a comment be given to the government that is freed from being a main culprit because they suspended the construction? The meaning of "suspension" is not the same as "cancellation". It means indecisive. The wise persons  should consider that point.
