MUSCAT — "Some people think football is a matter of life and death, I assure you it is much more than that" the great Bill Shankly once said. It will be with the full awareness of this fact that the young men of the Oman U-22 team will kick off against Myanmar bearing the hopes of a nation on their shoulders.
It is going to be the first-ever U-22 Championships and Oman has the distinguished honour to host it.
Oman coach Phillipe Burle appeared quite confident and satisfied with the preparations and was definitely counting on the crowd to amplify his side's home advantage.
"We played quite well in the West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship in Qatar recently. We also played two friendly matches against China and North Korea ahead of this tournament," said Burle at the press conference before today's game. He also stated that the team is confident of doing well in the tournament. Details on page 20
