Myanmar: archbishop sees 'streaks of hope' after decades of dictatorship

In an Easter message to his people, Archbishop Charles Bo of Yangon, Myanmar speaks of the "excruciating pain" his country has suffered under military rule, and calls for national reconciliation to preserve the path toward democracy.
"For those of us in Myanmar, resurrection is not just a dogma or an act of faith," the archbishop writes. „We went through our Way of the Cross for the last five decades." After years when the people "were nailed to a cross of injustice," he says, there are now "streaks of hope" for he future, as the government allows for moves toward democracy.
Still the future is clouded, Archbishop Bo warns, because of lingering oppression, hostility, and the corruption of power. He says: "The hope that swells in the heart of every citizen, needs to be cemented through reconciliation."
