CHIANG MAI. Over 200 Shan youth will climb up Loi Khur mountain in Hsipaw township northern Shan State, on July 7, 2014, to persuade youth to be involved insocial activities and environmental protection, and to oppose drugs.

Sai Hseng Mong, spokesman of the Tai Youth Network said: "We aim to persuade Shan youth to be involved in social activity, value natural resources and environment, commemorate of Shan martyrs, and to oppose drugs."
He added, "We are well aware that it is in the rainy season, and it will be rainy. However we can experience hardship and happiness together."
According to Sai Hseng Mong, the Shan youth who will join this activity are mostly from northern Shan State, including Lashio, Muse, Namkham, Tarngyarn and Mongyai. In the future, TYN will try to persuade youth from southern and eastern Shan State to take part.

According to Sai Lern, the contact person for the Tai Youth Network, their agendawhen they reach the summit of the mountain is to pay respect to the mountain spirits, hoist the Shan national flag, and then discussion about the impacts of drugs.
This will be the group's second mountain climb. The first time was on February 7, 2014 on Shan National Day, when the group arranged a similar activity and hoisted the Shan national flag on Loi Leng, the highest mountain in Shan State.
The Tai Youth Network is comprised of various Shan youth organizations and active individuals across Burma, and was formed in December 2013.
Loi Khur is situated in Hsipaw township, northern Shan State. According to Sai Hseng Mong, the height is over 6,000 feet above sea-level.
