Myanmar president leaves for visits to 3 European countries

Myanmar President U Thein Sein left Nay Pyi Taw Monday on a 10-day official visit to three countries in Western Europe — Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands, official sources said.

Scheduled to arrive in Berlin on Tuesday, U Thein Sein will be accorded official welcome on Wednesday by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and a joint press conference will be followed.

U Thein Sein will meet German President Joachim Gauck on Thursday and proceed to Switzerland where he will meet Swiss President Didier Burkhalter on Friday.

After a planned study trip to Nestle plant, U Thein Sein will go to the Netherlands on Sunday, the third leg of his Europe tour. He will wind up the tour by spending two more days to visit the Dutch Parliament and meet Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
