SES chooses Myanmar for inaugurals

Singapore Exhibition Services (SES) is entering the booming business events market in Myanmar with two new trade shows, Manufacturing Myanmar (MM) and Oil Gas Myanmar (OGM). The inaugural shows will be held at Myanmar Convention Centre in Yangon from October 2-4 and October 15-17, respectively.

With rapid development in Myanmar, MM aims to help international companies introduce their brands and gain a foothold in the manufacturing tools and technology industry, and enable local companies to meet international suppliers. More than 85 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions are participating in the exhibition.

William Lim, SES project director for machinery events, said: "Over 90 per cent of our exhibitors are from overseas. This will be the first time many of them have ventured into Myanmar, and they look forward to sharing their knowledge and introducing the right kind of tools and machines that will add value to the operations of local manufacturers."

OGM joins a growing number of oil and gas conferences and exhibitions being held in Myanmar. Focusing more on upstream activities, OGM will present a comprehensive range of petroleum geosciences, exploration production and refining products and services catering to the high demand for technology and knowledge in the natural gas and hydrocarbons industries.

"With expertise mostly residing outside Myanmar, OGM has gathered a host of internationally known industry names introducing the necessary equipment and services for each sector of the oil and gas value chain," said Chua Buck Cheng, SES project director for engineering events.

Addressing concern that OGM duplicates a show by another Singapore firm, Fireworks Exhibitions Conferences, SES said its OGM is a dedicated oil and gas show. Fireworks' July production was double-billed: Oil Gas Myanmar and Electric Myanmar, incorporating Offshore Myanmar, Power Myanmar and Solar Myanmar, staged at Tatmadaw Hall in Yangon.

Information Matrix, SES's local partner, will help with administrative and logistic arrangements.

SES's new shows are offshoots of its long-established biennial events – MTA and OSEA in Singapore. MTA has a successful Vietnam edition alternating between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and SES hopes to replicate its success in Myanmar.
