YANGON -- ASEAN+3 (China, Japan and South Korea) countries have agreed on joint approach in an agriculture and forest products promotion scheme for 2015-19, an official statement said Thursday.

According to a joint press statement of the 14th meeting of ASEAN+3 Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 6,730 tons of rice were stockpiled under the ASEAN+3 Emergency Rice Reserve Agreement, of which 6,150 tons have been distributed to the Philippines to help typhoon Haiyan victims.(Mynamar-ASEAN+3 Agreement)

HONG KONG -- The Asian Development Bank (ADB)maintained Thursday its stable growth forecast for Asia this year and next despite slower-than-expected growth in major industrial countries, according to an updated ADB report for 2014 released Thursday.

The ADB kept its forecasts for growth of gross domestic product (GDP) for developing Asia at 6.2 percent in 2014 and 6.4 percent in 2015, the fastest-growing economy globally, said the updated Asian Development Bank Outlook 2014. (Hong Kong-ADB Outlook)

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, a nearly life- long cigarette smoker, announced Thursday that he has completely quit smoking after trying to stop it for more than a decade. "I announce today that I have successfully given up smoking cigarettes after struggling to quit it for nearly 15 years," he said during a graduation ceremony of more than 2,000 students at the Chamroeun University of Poly-Technology. "Now, there is no smell of cigarette smoke in my home." (Cambodia-PM-Smoking Quitting)

YANGON -- South Korea will provide a total of 56.86 million U. S. dollars to Myanmar to help the Southeast Asian country in infrastructure development, state run New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.

A framework agreement in this regard has been signed between the two countries, aiming at helping Myanmar establishment of model villages, research and technology facilities on post-harvest and in-land fish farms, and the construction of schools and power stations in rural areas.
