Speaking at a public rally in Mon State on Sunday, Burma's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi called for a second round of six-party talks.
"The sexpartite dialogue has started very late," she told a crowd at Thanbyuzayat, some 40 kilometres south of state capital Moulmein [Mawlamyine]. "We have been calling for this for a long time. Now we are urging President Thein Sein to call a second meeting. I would like to state quite plainly that if the president is serious about solving the problems of the country peacefully, then I would like to remind him that the six-party dialogue should be held frequently and seriously."
The chairperson of the National League for Democracy was in Mon State for a short tour at the weekend, when she spoke at gatherings in Thaton, Moulmein, Mudon and Thanbyuzayat.

The first round of sexpartite talks was held on 10 April and involved Suu Kyi; Thein Sein; the two parliamentary chairmen, Shwe Mann and Khin Aung Myint; Commander-in-Chief Snr-Gen Min Aung Hlaing; and Arakan politician Aye Maung representing ethnic MPs.
A further meeting was scheduled for May, but no update has been offered by the president's office.
Suu Kyi says her proposed negotiations should include dialogue on a range of issues, including constitutional reform.
