Dozens of mourners today paid their respects to the last member of a Blackpool Regiment who fought during the Second World War.
Gunner Harry Motteram, a member of the 137th Field Regiment, was captured in Singapore in 1942 before being forced to work as a prisoner of war on the Burma Railway and Bridge on the River Kwai.
He died on May 1 after a battle with cancer.
Today mourners turned out at Carleton Crematorium to pay tribute at his funeral.
Rev Stephen Scholes, who conducted the service, said: "We are here today to celebrate the life of a remarkable man.
"A man we honour with great respect and dignity.
"He served his family, his country, his nation and his home."
