Wounded Young Lions To Go All Out Against Myanmar

From Mazani Chan Yat Sin

KUANTAN, Sept 10 (Bernama) -- Singapore's Under-23 squad's assistant coach K. Balagumaran said his Young Lions will be gunning for three points against Myanmar when both sides meet in their final preliminary match of the 2013 Merdeka Cup football tournament at the Temerloh Mini Stadium, Wednesday.

He said the win against Myanmar would give his young side better motivation after suffering two consecutive defeats which caused them a place in the final of the tournament.

"We still want to do well in the tournament and three points from tomorrow's match will be vital for us," he told reporters, here, on Tuesday.

The Young Lions under the tutelage of Singapore's former international V. Sundramoorthy, lost 0-1 to Malaysia in the opening match last Saturday before going down to their second defeat by the same scoreline to Thailand, Monday.

Balagumaran who will take charge of the Young Lions due to Sundramoorthy's dismissal in the match against Thailand, said several key players are expected to be sidelined due to injuries and suspension.

Sundramoorthy was given the marching orders by Myanmar referee, Win Htut during their 0-1 lost to Thailand after disputing Htut's decision.

Meanwhile, Myanmar team manager Tin Myint Aung is hoping that his side would manage to beat Singapore to boost their chances of making the final.

"I hope my boys will give their best performance to ensure we walk out with a win," he said.

Myint Aung said his two key players, skipper Kyaw Zayar Win and David Htan will be in action tomorrow although both of them sustained minor leg injuries.
