Myanmar's parliament could approve the securities exchange rules which
would be instrumental to the country's efforts to establish the stock
exchange by January 2014, reported the Voice, citing an official
source of Myanmar Securities Exchange Company.

Although the rules were expected in December, the date of release has
been postponed as it is in the stage of official translation.

The Securities Exchange Commission will be formed to govern the
functions of the stock exchange.

The commission will assess the license applications of companies to
register at the stock exchange.

The government officials recently said that only four companies in the
Myanmar have currently qualified for registration at the stock
exchange.

Yangon Stock Exchange is expected to come to life in 2015 and it is
expected that the joint venture between Myanma Economic Bank and an
monetary organization could run the stock exchange.

The Japanese aids agencies are helping Myanmar acquire its first-ever
stock exchange.
