Security guard at BJD leader's house arrested for molestation

Reported by Santosh Jagdev

Bhubaneswar, Mar 15:

The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested  a security guard deployed at the house of the chairman of Odisha State Cashew Development Corporation (OSCDC) and BJD leader Bikram Keshari Burma here, on charges of molestating Burma's maid who was working for him for many years.

The police said the accused has been sent to Jharpada jail after his bail was rejected by the local court here.

Though the case had happened on 26 February last month, it came to light on Friday after the Mahila police arrested the security guard Bharat Chandra Nayak (42) of Alipur under Mahanga Police Station in Cuttack district.

The victim, according to sources, had approached the Mahila police on the incident occured to lodge an FIR, but the police refused to register the case because the incident had taken place at a BJD leader's house.

The victim then approached the Deputy Commisioner of police  (DCP) Bhubaneswar Nitinjeet Singh and the Commissioner Dr RP Sharma on March 7 and march 11 respectively. The Mahila police registered the case  after they were directed by the senior police officials and conducted a medical examination on the victim at the Capital Hospital, sources said.

The Mahila police have slapped a case against Nayak under sections 376, 307, 379 of IPC .

According to the victim, on the night of February 25 the security guard who had been trying to woo her, had molested her while she was sleeping, . But when she started shouting for help, the accused covered her mouth with his hands and dragged her out of the house.
