NCCT Leader Requests Civil Society Organizations Refrain from Participating in Tripartite Peace Talks

The Nationwide Ceasefire Coordination Team (NCCT) would like civil society organizations to refrain from participating in tripartite peace

talks, says NCCT leader Nai Hong Sar.

"[We] accept their points of view but, in political talks, I would like to hold tripartite talks, mainly. As they [civil society groups will] request [to be involved], other organizations will do the same; I am concerned that future peace [talk] processes will become confusing," said Nai Hong Sar, in an interview with IMNA.

Nai Hong Sar continued that during these political talks, the government has requested to hold an 8-sector talk, while some groups requested 4 and 6-sector talks.

"There is no sign that they expect to include the section for the youths' decision-making. They will only accept the participation of youths to discuss youth issues," said Ko Moe Thwe, General Secretary of the National Youth Congress.

Ko Moe Thwe continued that youths should appeal for the opportunity to participate not only in peace talks regarding the discussion of youth issues, but other sectors as well.

"Not only youth groups, but women groups have also requested to take part in ceasefire and political talks. Before, NCCT said [that] in order [for the best outcome], [talks] would have to [include] everyone," said U Ko Ko Zaw, a member of the Mon State Ceasefire Observing Committee.

The NCCT met with civil society organizations on August 18th at the Green Hill Hotel on Poe Sein St. in Rangoon, and the NCCT will continue to have regular meetings with civil society groups when they come to Rangoon for peace talks.
