Border guards in Vietnam's southernmost province of Ca Mau on Thursday received a foreigner who had been saved off the province 11 days earlier by a Vietnamese fisherman, a local border guard station said yesterday.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Doanh, head of the Song Doc Border Guard Station, said the rescued foreigner, who is 1.57 meters tall and weighs 57 kilograms, cannot speak Vietnamese.
When border guards showed him the flags of 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the foreigner pointed to the flag of Myanmar, Lt. Col. Doanh said.
Earlier on August 10, Tran Van Nam, the owner of fishing vessel KG 90368 TS, of southern Kien Giang Province that borders Ca Mau, found the foreigner floating at sea, with two plastic cans held in his hands.
The finding was made when the boat was fishing off Ca Mau, in an area near Thailand's waters, Nam said, adding that his crew members and him took the floating person up to their vessel.
After receiving first aid and care, the foreigner recovered and stayed on the boat that continued its fishing trip until returning to the mainland on Thursday.
As soon as landing in Ca Mau, Nam reported the rescue to the local border guard station.
The station is now taking care of the foreigner, giving the person food, accommodation, and clothing, Lt. Col. Doanh said.
It is coordinating with competent agencies to find out the personal particulars of the foreigner, the lieutenant colonel said.
The foreigner's health is now in normal condition, he added.
