Myanmar Upper House Speaker admires Thailand's reform direction

BANGKOK, 25 November 2014 (NNT) – Visiting President of the House of Nationalities of Myanmar General Khin Aung Myint has expressed his understanding towards Thailand's current political situation and praised the reform progress being undertaken by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).

General Khin is making an official visit to Thailand as guest of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA). In his courtesy call on Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha at the Government House, General Khin praised the NCPO for its success in selecting representatives from diverse groups of people to fill in the National Legislative Assembly. He also affirmed cooperation to work with Thailand to deepen ties between both countries.

General Prayut, in his reply, praised Myanmar's parliamentary structure which reserved many seats to female members, a model that Thailand would consider to boost gender equality.

The Burmese Upper House Speaker earlier visited NLA President Pornpetch Wichitcholchai to discuss the relationships between the two counties and exchanged ideas on legislative issues. Mr. Pornpetch informed the Myanmar dignitary about Thailand's current political situation, which is now at a stage of national reform to bring Thailand on a roade to a true democracy.
