Show of independence

President Thein Sein of Myanmar reviews soldiers during a ceremony to mark the 67th anniversary of Myanmar's Independence Day, in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar's capital, on Sunday. This is the first time since the military coup in 1962 that a military parade was held to mark the day. Myanmar gained independence from Britain on January 4, 1948. Photo: IC

Main opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was held under house arrest in former capital Yangon for nearly two decades, told the BBC recently that she does not think the reforms are proceeding quickly enough, and called for more international help.
