Compiling the lists of eligible voters in Mon State will be finished in upcoming May, according to U Hein Lin Htet, Vice-director of State Election Sub-commission.
"It [pilot project] will be done within the fifth month while the list of voters will be posted in the sixth month. There are only minimal difficulties. These include that some locals do not have Form 66, and when they do have them the pages are too blurry and ripped up. In accordance with the law, if a person is born from ethnic parents and is already 18, then local authorities must deem them eligible to be on the voter's list regardless of whether they are without Form 66 or an ID card ," said U Hein Lin Htet.
As of April 22, 76.30% of eligible voter lists in Mon State have been compiled, and about 972,141 people are eligible to vote.
The stated record of voter lists are gathered from 10 townships in Mon State, including Moulmein, Chaungzone, Kyaikmayaw, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat, Ye and Thaton.
Nai Layih Tamart, General Secretary of Mon National Party (MNP), said that it was not believable that all the voters on the preliminary lists would be able to participate in casting votes in the 2015 elections. The real situation would be only be known after the final preliminary voter list comes out.
"According to affirmed information, in Mon State, there are more than 1,240,000 eligible voters but the election commission has not officially announced this statistic. According to the preliminary voter list record, not every listed voter will be able to participate in casting a ballot. This only can be completely done if the political parties and civil organizations persist after the preliminary list record is out," said Nai Layih Tamart
Nai Layih Tamart continued that Mon National Party (MNP) planned to have its local party committee members carry out the activities of re-checking the record list of eligible voters after it is announced to public.
The Union Election Commission (UEC) has piled up nationwide eligible voter lists that will determine who is eligible to vote in the forthcoming 2015 elections; its first phase was carried out from November to December 2014, followed by a second phase from December 2014 to February 2015, a third phase from January to March 2015, and a fourth phase from February to April 2015.
