Some 590 workers went on strike at the beginning of this month
Striking garment workers in Myanmar have ended their action after securing a 37% pay rise and other benefits.
Some 590 out of nearly 700 workers at the factory in Yayni had gone on strike at the beginning of this month, demanding a doubling of salaries and the restitution of rights which they said had been lost when the factory was privatised.
Local union IWFM, an affiliate of the Industriall Global Union, secured an agreement, including a ban on forced overtime, double overtime rates for Sundays and holidays, increased breaks, and a 37% salary increase.
Industriall general secretary Jyrki Raina said the saga "illustrates the challenges workers are facing in Myanmar", adding that he expected to see "many more" similar fights in the future.
