Myanmar receives over 2 mln foreign tourists in 2014-15

YANGON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has received over 2 million foreign tourists in the first six months of the fiscal year 2014- 15, local media reported Tuesday.

Of them, the number of tourists arrival by land topped with 1.3 million among others, said the daily Eleven.

Tourists from the United States, Belgium, Canada, Indonesia, China, France, Japan, India, Germany, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Switzerland, China's Taiwan and Malaysia mainly enter through Yangon and Mandalay International Airports.

The number of tourists arrival reached over 2 million in Fiscal year 2013-14, up over 1 million tourists compared with that of the same period of fiscal year 2012-13, the report said.

Myanmar targets to bring in 4.5 million tourists to the country this year, according to earlier report.

If the target is met as expected, the tourist industry will accelerate the country's business sector in the future, tourist operators said.

According to official figures, a total of 3.05 million tourists visited Myanmar in 2014, 70 percent of them mainly came from ASEAN member countries, followed by those from European ones especially Britain and Germany.
