Myanmar's border trade thriving

There are a total of 15 trading posts to trade with China, Thailand, Indian and Bangladesh. In the 2011-2012 fiscal year, the average trade amounted to US$3.368 billion, in 2012-2013, US$3.755 billion, in 2013-2014, US$ 4.559 billion.

However, the total trade in 2014-2015 jumped to US$6.661 billion.

Myanmar's exports to the neighbouring countries are thriving and the highest earning trading post is at Muse, near the Myanmar-China border followed by Myawaddy post at the Myanmar-Thailand border.

Although illegal trade is still rampant, the Prevention and Control of Illegal Trade Central Committee have been making strong efforts against it.

The increase in legal trade volume is also the direct results of the actions of the committee's move to crack down on smugglers and illegal traders.
