Yitachu asks Pochuries to contribute towards state economic sustainability

Parliamentary secretary for school education Yitachu has encouraged Pochuries to contribute towards the economic sustainability of Nagaland by 2040 by the tribe attains its 50 years of tribe recognition.

Addressing a mammoth gathering at "Pochury Day" silver jubilee celebration Tuesday at Meluri Local Ground, Yitachu said going by the rich resources available in Pochury inhabited area the tribe should become the highest revenue contributor in the state by 2040.

In order to achieve this, he said the tribe should be able to develop and manage the water resources for hydroelectric power generation, mineral exploration and opening of border trade with Myanmar.

Yitachu said the region has surplus rice, fish and livestock production and therefore through this corridor, even if there were blockages and strikes the state will be secured through the production of the area.

To achieve this vision Yitachu said that the people should be "well equipped with human resources" and added that this can be achieved only when people reason together and maintain unity and peace.

Meluri sub division (under Phek District) consisting 30 villages, bordering Myanmar, possess rich mineral resources, he added.

Ex-MLA Khuosatho Nyusou, Phek deputy commissioner Murohu Chotso and Pochury Hoho first president Z. Katiry also spoke on the occasion.

Earlier, the function was chaired by Pochury Hoho president Penthii Pochury while Khathopa Katiry delivered welcome address. Reverend Pantsa Leyri, superintendent UPCI SEND led a special prayer for Pochury and invoked God's blessing to bestow upon each and every citizens of Pochury.

PBCC executive secretary Reverend Riimatho Nyusou  and PBCC president Reverend  Tivisie Pojar said invocation and benediction respectively while Khevitho Nyuthe proposed the vote of thanks.

It may be noted that April 21 is set aside as "Pochury Day" in commemoration of the recognition of Pochury tribe in 1990. The people of Pochury celebrated the first anniversary of Pochury Day at Meluri on April 21 after government of Nagaland made formal announcement of the recognition of Pochury as the 16th tribe of Nagaland on April 19, 1990.
