Nations squabble as starving Burma migrants' misery continues



Burma and Thailand blamed one another for the growing humanitarian crisis in
the Andaman Sea, where thousands of starving migrants are drifting in open
boats, as regional governments refuse to let them land.



The government of Burma, from where many of the boat people have fled
persecution, threatened to boycott a planned international conference on the
crisis. Denying responsibility for the plight of the Rohingya Muslims, many
of whom are feeling violence and ethnic cleansing in western Burma, it
blamed the crisis on people smugglers from Thailand.
