UWS Economics Professor Hembd receives Fulbright Award
5/11/2015
Jerry Hembd, professor of economics at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture at the Cooperative University, Thanlyin, Myanmar (Burma), during its June through September semester. Thanlyin is located on the outskirts of Yangon (Rangoon), the country's largest city.
Hembd will teach two sections of urban economics—one for 30 students and another for 28 teaching staff—leading to a certificate in urban economics. He will also teach a class in curriculum development for 36 faculty and staff at the university.
Hembd is one of approximately 1,100 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program in 2014-2015. The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, a division of the Institute of International Education.
Since its establishment in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late U.S. Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas, the Fulbright Program has given over 318,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, scientists and other professionals the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.
