Myanmar needs continued support from international community to keep on track of "truly irreversible reform process", UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon said in meeting with Group of Friends of Myanmar in New York.

"The government and people of Myanmar need continued support to move towards a truly irreversible reform process and to deliver the dividends of peace and inclusive development," Ban told the group formed over a dozen nations since 2009.

"Inclusive process of peace dialogue" is tipped for sustainable peace in the country hit by conflicts and communal violence.

He noted the enhanced role of the parliament in the reform process.

He expressed concerns over communal violence in Myanmar and said he would write a letter to Myanmar leaders to address the issues.

"Now is the time for communal harmony and promoting positives wind of change and reform," he said.

He promised continued support of UN to Myanmar in the crucial period of the country.

At the meeting on 10 July, the group welcomed the progress of the country's reforms but pressed that major challenges have yet to be addressed.
