Foreign national dies in Manipur Central jail

An Myanmar national (under trial prisoner) died of illness in Shajiwa Manipur Central Central, Imphal where he has been lodged after arrested in connection with smuggling of drug, three years back in September 2010.


An official source Wednesday said that the foreigner identified as Myintkyaw (40), a residence of Satanku, a locality of border Tamu town of Myanmar, has been in jail after he was arrested by the customs officials at Moreh, the border town of Manipur on September 19, 2010.


He was remanded in the jail in connection with case no. 01/CL/NDPS/IMP/CU/2010-11 under section 22(C), 29,60 NDPS Act 1985 and was hospitalized JNIMS hospital few days back after his health became deteriorated.


The dead body is yet to be sent to his native country pending the official procedure to send him as foreign national, the source added.
