Man arrested after Myanmar unrest

YANGON, Myanmar – Police say they have arrested a man accused of posting photos online of violent clashes between displaced Muslims and security forces in western Myanmar.

It was not immediately clear what charges the man, Than Shwe, will face.

The predominantly Buddhist country has been wracked by sectarian violence in the last year, with at least 250 people killed and 140,000 others displaced, most of them Rohingya Muslims.

Government spokesman Win Myaing said recent unrest in Rakhine state was sparked by the discovery Friday of a fisherman's body near a camp outside of Sittwe.

He called it a drowning, but a well-known activist, Aung Win, and others alleged the man was beaten to death by police.

The rioting that followed left one person dead and 10 others injured, most by police firing.
