Myanmar Football Federation would take action against supporters who
started violence in a Myanmar National League football match between
Yangon United FC and Nay Pyi Taw FC, the football governing body
official said.
Players and supporters who started the clash would be charged after
considering records from CCTV cameras in the last match of the league
on 4 August, MFF spokesman Soe Moe said.
Yangon United FC emerged champions of Myanmar National League for
three years in a row after the MFF ruled that Yangon United FC beat
Nay Pyi Taw FC 1-0 in the game which was suspended after 30 minutes of
play time.
Nay Pyi Taw FC hosted the game at Wunna Theiddhi Stadium, a major
venue for SEA Games to be hosted for the first time in Myanmar in
coming December.
The supporters destroyed seats of the stadium and threw each other
with hard materials in the clash between players and supporters of the
two clubs.
Nay Pyi Taw FC is expected to receive a fine and other actions by the
Myanmar Football Federation after failing to keep its supporters in
order despite MFF's prior warning about the possible clash.
MFF President Zaw Zaw admitted that there were weakness in security in
the match.
The Nay Pyi Taw FC was fined K 1.1 million (approximate to 1100 USD)
in the previous year due to the violent behaviours of supporters.
