Myanmar president U Thein Sein urged the farmers of the agro-based
country to work hard to help the country graduate from the least
developed countries, saying there is no such a heal-all solution in a
meeting in Nay Pyi Taw Monday.
The meeting attended by government ministers, lawmakers and social
groups was for granting starting capitals to the cooperative societies
in the "Union territory".
The President said, "Initial capital would be provided to each
cooperative society from eight townships in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area
at the ceremony", according to state media report.
The initial capital of K 720.67 million were disbursed to the
societies as loan and agricultural machinery worth K 128.245 were
provided as aids by the Ministry of Cooperatives at the meeting.
He said the loan disbursement is a part of initiatives of the ministry
to perform its poverty alleviation duties.
Despite prospects for economic development, Myanmar still has high
poverty rate, confessed the president who is overseeing the country in
transition.
Farmers constitute roughly 70 percent of population in the country,
says the president.
He tipped the mechanized farming for higher incomes of the farmers,
saying better supply chain is needed.
