Dagon Taryar, the acclaimed writer and the last significant one who
witnessed and participated in the country's independence struggle as a
student activist, died at the ripe age in eastern Myanmar town Kalaw
Monday afternoon.
The author of the most acclaimed novelette "May" was the last to join
the group of artists who passed away in the Southeast Asian country.
He wrote a book "Sketches", portraying life and works of the country's
independence fighters and writers he had come across.
He came from a delta town to join the prestigious-then Yangon
University as the country marched closer to regaining its independence
and became a chairman of the Students' Union.
His name is Htay Myaing, but wrote novels, articles and poems under
the pseudonym of Dagon Taryar.
His last poem was an appeal to save the River Irrawaddy amidst the
protests to stop damming the river more than two years ago.
He is also known for his role as the peace advocate.
Journalist Maung Wuntha, satirist Min Lu and singer Myo Myint Lay one
after another all after months long illness in this black August.
