PARLIAMENT SET CRITERIA FOR CONSTITUTIONAL REVIEW COMMITTEE

The parliament of Myanmar has issued a detailed set of rules and regulations for the constitutional review committee formed a month ago to review the country's controversial constitution.


The press release signed by combined house speaker Shwe Mann detailed the objectives, duties and privileges of the joint committee.


The joint committee was formed on July 25 with lawmakers from various political parties and the military personnel that constitute 25 percent in the parliament.


Among its objectives include "Pursuing lasting peace by building up national reconciliation among ethnic groups".


It also the committee to focus on "provisions that are conducive to the nation and as desired by the people over unprofitable and controversial provisions".


The committee's costs would be funded by the parliament till its term expires after submitting the report to the combined house.
