Yangon will start to see 94 Bus Rapid Transit buses on its busy roads
in the near future as a local company OMINI FOCUS is preparing the
test run soon, military media outlet Myawady reported.
The plan has become talk of the town after the municipal authorities
revealed the plan to initiate the project as they sought solutions for
easing growing trafficking jams in the commercial city.
The company would hire BRT experts and all buses would have GPS
installed to be able to inform about the conditions of the buses in
real time.
"We would opt system adaptable to Japanese equipment in installing GPS
system. We would employ Japanese technologies. We have got drivers and
conductors ready.
We would hire technicians," an official of the
company said.
According to a separate report by the government-run Myanma Alinn
newspaper, the BRT buses would charge K 400 (~ 40 cent) per passenger.
The company would also have backups of dozens of buses for BRT routes
which is expected to start on wide Pyay road.
