Myanmar Nagas dismayed with NSCN (K)

Village Administrative Council (VAC), Chen Area in Myanmar has expressed disappointment with NSCN (K) while alleging that "Naga armed forces" have not contributed anything for the betterment of the Nagas living in Myanmar in any economic or educational sectors "60 years of revolutionary action".


In a statement issued by Chen Area village administrator Pubo and Sa Mu, Lower House MP from Lahe township, Naga Self-Administered Zone on behalf of Lahe people said Naga society has been "ruined" and as a result the people were still lagging behind other ethnic groups in Myanmar.


The two leaders informed that since 1960, Naga armed cadres had taken refuge in Lahe township region. Since then many innocent people were killed, villages destroyed and some suffered from pangs of hunger during as a result of conflict between Myanmar military and Naga armed group.


With the signing of cease-fire agreement between government of Myanmar and NSCN (K), the state government has been making efforts to execute better facilities for the Myanmar Nagas.


Road construction was initiated with the collaboration of local companies and entrepreneurs after obtaining the agreement from the state to bring better local transportation system.


However, NSCN (K)'s appeal to the Sagaing regional office has become a hindrance toward the ongoing local transport construction projects said the statement.


The two leaders mentioned that the ongoing three local transportation projects: Noklat, Avakhong and Chenmoho, are the cooperative implementing between MPs of Naga Self-Administered Zone and Companies and Entrepreneurs from Nagaland. The local communities were frustrated towards NSCN (K) for the objection on these transportations projects.


Nagaland Government and Government of Myanmar are not involved in the ongoing local transportation projects, yet projects are been carried out and it was the outcome of a discussion between the MPs and the  entrepreneurs from Chabou Co Company on May 2, 2012 during their visit to Myanmar.


According to the statement, these projects were not correlated with the Lungwa National Trade route project. The local community in Myanmar has also reportedly said that NSCN (K) statement on route map of the present construction area could mislead the people.


Lahe MP U SaMuu also said NSCN (K)'s objection to the ongoing projects--Chenmoho constructions projects ignored public's concern.
